Volunteer Orientation

With the help of my co-worker & friend, I was introduced to the Union Gospel Mission and had the chance to volunteer there 4 times this Spring. Last Wednesday was my last scheduled day to serve dinner, but since I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to contact the coordinator to sign up for more!

The volunteer director replied to my email right away yesterday and invited me to the volunteer orientation which they have once a month. It just so happened that tonight was the night! What lucky timing was that?

I filled out the 3 page application and joined in the meeting from 7-8:30 tonight. It was fantastic. There were approximately 10 people there, we watched some slide shows, a video, listened to recovering residents' life stories and toured the facilities. I hope they call me soon so I can start serving!

As I was walking down the street, I noticed a new feeling like there is a "skip in my step" and a smile that I can't hide. I feel lighter, almost like the burdens I've been holding are being lifted.
