It was 8:30pm and the day was coming to an end. I had a dollar in the cup holder of my car, ready to give to someone if the opportunity arose. And it did, faster than I expected! I was almost home and at a stop light where a young couple was sitting on the wet ground. They looked cold and bored. I rolled down my window and the boy rushed over to accept my offer.
I said, "Have a good day," as I handed it to him. Afterward I thought, was that wrong to say "have a good day?" I don't know. What are you supposed to say?
I do know that although I might not know what the right thing to say is, I am feeling more and more comfortable in these situations where I didn't used to be comfortable at all. And that was only a couple weeks ago. I feel more at ease when I approach someone to give them bread or money, or to smile and say a simple "hi". It feels good! I will continue practicing and perhaps one day, I'll be able to stand up in front of a group (yes, public speaking as we discussed earlier) of people in need and say something that will affect them in a positive way. We'll see!
Peace :)
