SMART Reading Week 2

Tuesday, January 4th 2011

I had my 2nd day of SMART volunteering today and it was even better than the first day! I grabbed my 2 folders, one for each student I am assigned to and sat in the little kid's chair at the little kid's table and waited.

The first group of readers came in (4 of them) and the 2nd grade boy named J.S. entered the room and shouted out, "Who has J.S.?"

I raised my hand up high and said, "I do!"

He had a giant smile on his face as he walked over and sat in the chair next to me. My heart felt like someone had just held a heater up next to it, it was so warmed.

We read for 30 minutes, and then J.S. left and it was J.C.'s turn. I raised my hand and waived the same way I did for J.S., but since I met J.C. a couple weeks ago he already knew to come over to my table.

J.S. is a shy, young 1st grader, but I have a feeling that by the time the year is over, he'll blossom into a confident and talkative reader.

I am so delighted that I had the opportunity to sign up for this. I look forward to next Tuesday already!

Peace :)
