On my way down the street, I came across a man in a wheelchair who was just about to cross the street. He said, "Excuse me. Would you be able to do me a favor?"
I said, "Uh, yes..." with slight uncertainty because I didn't know what he would be asking for and I don't like saying yes at first with a no after. If he wanted a dollar or directions, sure. If he wanted a ride to another town or $3,000 like someone else asked once, then I'd have to change my answer to "No".
He said, "Can you push me up to that place right there under the sign?" As he pointed 1/2 block up the hill to a pub sign.
"Sure. I can do that". I answered as I grabbed his wheelchair handles and began looking for cars before we crossed the intersection. I pushed him up the sidewalk to the bar entrance. It had a pull only door and a ridge to go over just to enter. I don't usually think of how difficult little things like that can be if your in a wheelchair. He pulled the door open, then we backed up as it started to close on us but we caught it just in time.
He thanked me and offered to buy me a cup of coffee, but I had to get going. He said the food there is good and he can get home easily since it's downhill all the way. I hope he enjoyed his lunch and made it home simply.
Peace :)
