Happy Birthday Grandpa

Sunday, December 26th 2010

Today is my grandpa's birthday and he's 84 years old this year. I called him up this morning to wish him a happy birthday and see what he had going on today.

He told me about the stormy weather they were having, what they did yesterday and what they had planned for tonight- dinner at Elmer's Pancake House. He talked more and longer than ever before and it was awesome!

Then I spoke with my grandma for a few minutes and learned a few more details about their weekend and we talked about how much fun we had on Christmas Eve. I told them I loved them and wished them a day of fun!

Peace :)

Merry Christmas

Saturday, December 25th 2010

Merry Christmas to all! Last night's festivities were grand and today we'll continue on celebrating.

I remember last year, I washed all the dishes at my mom's house from the Christmas Eve party so she could start getting ready for guests to arrive on Christmas Day. So, this year I wanted to do the same!

She puts so much work into hosting Christmas at their house, that that is the least I can do to help. I washed all the dishes (even a pan covered in bacon grease) and picked up the house a bit. We had breakfast, opened gifts, and relaxed in the family room all morning!

Then, D and I headed to his parents' house for dinner later this afternoon . I made a couple appetizers and we arrived just a few minutes late but that was ok. It was a fabulous day & night and I am so thankful for the family & friends we have in our lives.

I pray that those around near & far had a day filled with peace and love.

Peace :)

Gifts, Food & Wine

Friday, December 24th 2010

Today is my favorite day of the year- Christmas Eve! This year, the holiday season has flown by, but it's been wonderful all along the way. I pretty much have everything ready, except I needed to stop at the store for a few grocery items, some wine to take to the 3 parties we are going to this weekend and a few little extra gifts for others.

The excitement and preparation is fun, yet can be a little stressful, but I'm trying to relax and take it all in with a deep breath.

After making my way through the busiest store in town and through the heavy traffic on every block, I made it home. I was in a slight rush, but still took my time in wrapping the last of the gifts as pretty as possible, made an appetizer, packed up the car and headed out to D's grandma's house!

Peace :)

P:ear

Thursday, December 23rd 2010

Tonight I'm meeting my girlfriends for dinner and to celebrate Christmas- our 2nd annual gathering!

Last year, we exchanged gifts with each other, but this year we decided we'd each buy a gift for an organization called p:ear, who "builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives". Here is their website if you'd like to take a look:

http://pearmentor.blogspot.com/

They are asking for art supplies, school supplies, books, socks, and anything else that might help local youth in need. I was going to pick up a gift card to the bookstore, but ended up on the art/school supply aisle in the store instead. I was having so much fun filling up my basket with notepads, watercolor paints, glue, scissors, markers and lots of other fun stuff. It was great!

It reminded me of when I was younger and going back to school. Those things excite me a ton and it felt so good to know a young teen might really enjoy painting and drawing with the supplies I was picking out for them.

Peace :)

Daily Numbers

Wednesday, December 22nd 2010

We have a list at work that we report our progress on and our daily numbers are posted on the wall for everyone to see. It's not fun to have a "0" for the day because the goal is a minimum of 2 and everyone keeps an eye on the board constantly.

This morning I was having a system issue and with the help of my coworker, Mr. F, I got the file out in time. Since Mr. F stepped in to help out, I decided to give him the credit for the work- even though I spent about 3 hours on the file and he spent only 5 minutes, it made me feel more comfortable to give him the credit. I don't even think he noticed, but that was the fun part.

Plus, I had a few easy files luckily which balanced it all out anyway and it was my way of showing my appreciation for the help.

Peace :)

American Cancer Society

Tuesday, December 21st 2010

One of our external vendor reps at work comes in occasionally and drops off cupcakes and treats which are always delicious. But today, they sent each of us a Christmas card explaining the option to donate to a charity on their behalf.

You log on to a website which welcomes you personally and invites you to pick 1 out of 4 charities and the vendor will make a donation to that organization in your name. How awesome is that?!

I chose the American Cancer Society to make my donation to, in honor of my Aunt S. who is battling cancer. I don't know how much was donated, but the thought is wonderful and much more fulfilling than cupcakes and candy which are so commonly given for the holidays.

I love you Aunt S.

Pay The Full Price

Monday, December 20th 2010

After ordering a double shot of espresso mocha (my usual), the lady rang up the drink charging me for only 1 shot. Whereas, there have been times when I might have kept my mouth quiet (a long, long time ago I'm talking about ;), this time there was no hesitation at all.

"I don't think you charged me for the extra shot?" I politely added.

"Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Thank you so much for being honest." She replied.

Even though they are already charging a ton and keep raising their prices on us, I didn't mind a bit letting her know I owed more. I have cut back on going as often, so if I'm making the decision to spend my money there, I'd better be prepared to pay the full price without complaining.

Peace :)

Baby Plate

Sunday, December 19th 2010

I went out shopping today to find a gift for my new baby cousin who will be enjoying his first Christmas this year. I found the cutest baby plate (the kind with section dividers for each course). It's from one of my favorite kitchen supply stores and is covered with pictures of farm animals- something my family can relate to since most of them grew up living on a farm.

I think it will be useful and I hope his parents will like it too.

Peace :)

Christmas Party

Saturday, December 18th 2010

Tonight, we hosted a Christmas party at our house for our friends. D and I spent about 6 hours shopping, cleaning, cooking and preparing for our guests to arrive! It was a great day and we loved every minute of it. I'd say the best part is when the first couple arrived and it was time to start partying!

Everyone brought wine, appetizers and dessert and we served a proper 3 course dinner. It was the first time we've all sat down at the table as a big group and celebrated the holiday together in more of a formal fashion and it was fantastic. One friend even stood up and gave a toast!

I'm looking forward to the next time we have everyone over again.

Peace :)

Plastic Sack

Friday, December 17th 2010

Another piece of trash went flying past me tonight on our walk home- a plastic sack caught in the wind. It was almost a game to try and catch it on this blustery, cold night. D was laughing at me, but I grabbed it and threw it in the bin where there were lots of others bags overflowing and looking like they were ready to fly away at any moment.

Oh well. If they do, maybe I'll pick them up tomorrow when I walk by again.

Peace :)

Peace Card & Vase

Thursday, December 16th 2010

Well, I finally sent a card to my Auntie today which I meant to send since last week! I hope it's ok though and I hope she still likes it just the same.

I found a box of sweet greeting cards that have a picture of a white dove on the front (my favorite) and they're titled with the word "Peace". They are beautiful and my Auntie got the first one! I also bought her a pretty, little flower vase made out of porcelain which I'll give to her for Christmas.

Peace :)

Paper Cup

Wednesday, December 15th 2010

On my way to the train stop this morning, there was some garbage on the ground that I decided to pick up. It's been a while since I picked up trash and it's time I start doing it more often.

It wasn't much, just an empty paper cup, but it looks bad just lying there on the sidewalk so I threw it in the garbage, just 20 feet away!

Peace :)

S.M.A.R.T.

Tuesday, December 14th 2010

A few years ago I volunteered with the SMART program (Start Making A Reader Today) and absolutely loved it. I wanted to sign up and do it again for the past couple years, but never took the time- until a couple weeks ago. The coordinator contacted me and asked if I was available on Tuesdays to start reading and replied with a "Yes!"

So today was my first day, where I had a little introduction from the coordinator for the first 1/2 hour, then read with a 1st grader for the 2nd 1/2 hour. Next time I'll sit with 2 different students, each for a 1/2 hour.

The boy, Mr. J, was adorable and read an Arthur book to me the entire 30 minutes. He wanted help with the big words but he did a fantastic job with all the rest. I think he even learned a couple words. One of them was the word "school" because at the start he didn't know it and by the end, he was reading the word without hesitation. Wonderful!

It was also take-home-a-book day so each child got to pick out a paperback book to keep.

Mr. J picked out a different Arthur book to take home and while I walked him back to class, he started reading the book outloud all the way down the hallway. So cute! I'll go back after the holidays in a couple weeks and I'm looking foward to it very much!

Peace :)

D's Birthday

Monday, December 13th 2010

Happy birthday D and your twin brother Mr C! Tonight I rushed home to meet D and head down to his favorite sports bar for dinner and to watch Monday Night Football. This wouldn't be my first choice of activities to do on a Monday night, but it's his birthday and I'll do whatever he wants- except skydiving or anything like that of course.

I'm getting excited that I'm almost done with my Christmas shopping too. Today I bought a gift for the person who's name I drew in D's family's exchange so I think I only have 2 more people to buy for and then I'm ready!

This is my favorite time of year no doubt.

Peace :)

Guitar

Sunday, December 12th 2010

Today is my great Auntie's birthday and I meant to send her a card earlier last week so she'd get it in time, but here we are on the 12th already and I haven't sent one. I will still try to send one as soon as I can. Happy Birthday Auntie!

We have another birthday coming right up tomorrow too- D's! I had a present for him hiding at my parent's house for about a month and I've been so anxious to give it to him. My mom & dad brought it up yesterday, so tonight I asked if he wanted to open it.

He was surprised and looked so perplexed at how big the box was. When he realized it was a guitar, he turned into excited. It was fun watching him open it and start playing it. We'll see if he turns into a pro someday...

Peace :)

Birthday Celebration

Saturday, December 11th 2010

Today, my parents and brother came up to celebrate D's birthday, (which is coming up on Monday) my birthday which just passed and for a chance for my brother to meet D's parents. I prepared the appetizer, salad and baked D's favorite cake in the morning. Then D brought home the pizza which we baked for dinner after everyone arrived.

It was a rainy & stormy day, but we were so grateful to be warm & cozy inside with Christmas music playing, candles lit, wine flowing and dinner in the oven.

I am so thankful for this evening and I hope that everyone else enjoyed it even more than I did.

Peace :)

$5 Grocery Bag

Friday, December 10th 2010

On my way home from work, I stopped at my favorite grocery store where they are selling $5 and $10 bags of groceries for those in need. I love adding those to the tab at the register and tonight I picked the $5 bag.

It's so simple and easy. I'm not sure how they spend the money exactly. If it's actual food that is donated or money to the Food Bank maybe? I should ask and next time, after payday, I might go for the $10 bag.

Peace :)

Coffee Run

Thursday, December 9th 2010

Some of us signed up for tonight's work party where we are staying until 9pm or so to help another department get caught up on their workload. I was thinking this afternoon that a coffee run might be a good idea to get us going after the afternoon winds down.

I sent out an email to those staying to see if they wanted me to pick up a coffee for them in order to get ready and excited for the evening. Excited for a work party? It's worth a shot. A few accepted and 2 of us drove to pick them up. I think the caffeine helped pump us up for another 4 hours, plus it was a nice treat for such a long day.

Peace :)

Friends Over Before Thai Dinner

Wednesday, December 8th 2010

My dear friend Miss K wanted to take me out for dinner this week to a place of my choice, so I chose to go to the Thai restaurant downstairs from my apartment. I decided it would be appropriate to have her over for a glass of wine beforehand and invite her boyfriend too. So they both came over around the same time D got home and the 4 of us couldn't find enough time to get in all that we wanted to talk about!

Suddenly it was getting late and we still hadn't left for dinner! This has happened before and we never ended up making it to the restaurant in time because they close relatively early. But I wasn't going to let that happen again. Thai food here we come!

We had a delicious dinner and the guys had fun experimenting with the spice rack they brought to the table full of hot peppers & sauces. I kept mine on the mild side, Miss K's was perfect the way it was and the boys added lots of spice to theirs.

Thanks a lot Miss K & Mr. J for coming over tonight and for taking us out to dinner. Let's do this more often!

Peace :)

Home Is Where the Heart Is

Tuesday, December 7th 2010

Today I turned 30 years old! Quite an interesting feeling I've got to say. I don't mind getting older and I am really trying to embrace each year as they come and go, knowing that each brings more knowledge, lessons, and love. On love, it feels like my love is growing deeper in all of my relationships as I age- with my fiance, family, friends, and even strangers too. It is wonderful.

I felt like I was smiling a giant smile inside all day long at work. Even though I was at work, I felt as if there was no other place I wanted to be more. Of course, spending the day on a tropical island with all of my family would probably be more amazing then concentrating on files at the office, but what a great feeling to not even be thinking of what could be better than where you currently are. Those "daydream" thoughts didn't have time to cross my mind because I was fully content right in the moment.

The saying, "The grass is always greener" is sad but true a great deal of the time. When I'm at work, I think about how fun it would be to be at home. When I'm at home, I think about where I'd love to travel. When I'm traveling, I think about what I'm missing at home...

I wonder how I can keep that feeling I felt today and be so content no matter where I am or what I'm doing. If home is where the heart is, and our hearts are inside us, then why aren't we always at "home"?

I will also say that the time went by so fast today I don't even remember looking at the clock until 3:30 and expected it to say 11am! The same went with the romantic & festive evening I spent with D. So when time is flying, that usually means you are living in the moment, is that correct?

But then I think, why is life best spent with time flying? When you are doing what you love, it would be nice for time to slow down a bit so you can enjoy it even longer, right? Hmmm...

Well, with time going so fast I only did one little thing today for Miss J. She didn't realize that she'd have to work late tonight until we were told at our meeting, so she didn't come prepared with dinner- only a sack lunch. So when I went to pick up a sandwich, I offered to pick one up for her too :)

Thanks to all of my family and friends, near and far, who made this day special and for making every day special. I love you.

Peace :)

Card to Grandma B

Monday, December 6th 2010

I have been planning to send a letter to my Grandma B for quite some time now and today I finally did. I wanted to after D and I got engaged to tell her all about it and just to say hi at the same time. But time has gone by so quickly lately and she has now sent me 2 notes since!

I wrote in one of my favorite cards that I've been keeping for years and told her how much I love her (along with all the other day to day stuff of course!). I bought her a Christmas gift yesterday, but I didn't tell her that. I'll keep that a surprise until I see her at Christmas.

I think it's time to buy another box of blank cards to have on hand for occasions like this.

Peace :)

Train Ticket

Sunday, December 5th 2010

D and I were walking downtown this morning trying to catch the train at the right time to get a ride home. We ran up to one just as the doors were closing! So, we then started hurrying toward the next stop one block up where we could easily get on in time.

But then a lady stopped us at the ticket machine. I didn't know if she was going to ask us for money or directions or what, but we were then going to miss the train we were about to run for. You know what though, it didn't matter. When someone is waiving me down for help, it's like the rest of the world stops.

She didn't speak much English but I could make out that she wanted a one way ticket west through all zones. So I helped push the buttons for the right ticket and showed her the machine only takes credit cards, no cash. I was slightly surprised at how much she trusted me to even let me pay with her credit card for her! Who does that these days? I felt like I was in a old-fashioned, peaceful world where everyone is honest and the town is bustling with Christmas shoppers all around. Doesn't get much better than that.

She got her ticket in time for her train and we ran to the next and made it home within a few minutes. What a nice sunny Sunday in December.

Peace :)

Girl's Party

Saturday, December 4th 2010

Since the wedding ceremony is only 2 blocks from my house, I invited all the girls over to my house to get ready together, have lunch and mimosas before we went to the wedding. Most of our significant others are in the wedding, so this way we have each other to go over with. Plus, it's always a fun time when the girls get together.

I woke up as early as I could and started cleaning the house, then prepared some food and got myself ready almost in time for them to arrive. I was running late, but luckily so was everyone else which gave me a much needed extra half hour.

We had so much fun and the time went by so fast! Then we were off to the fabulous wedding ceremony and reception that lasted from 2:30-12 midnight! It was a wonderful celebration and everything was so beautiful. Congratulations Mr and Mrs. S and thanks for letting us share in this joyous day with you.

Peace :)

Wrapping Paper

Friday, December 3rd 2010

I love buying gifts and presents for people for any and all occasions. But when it comes to wrapping the gifts, I don't get too excited. I'm not so good at it and I'd rather put them in a cute gift bag with colorful tissue paper than try to wrap a box with paper. Either I get too much paper and have to fold it over and over. Or, I don't get enough and then have to cut a spare square and tape it on, then cover it all up with bows hoping no one notices. Maybe the more I do it, the better I'll get at it?

So I bought a roll of pretty wedding paper and a card to go with it for our dear friends' wedding this weekend and I'm going to wrap it as best as I can!

Peace :)

Most Positive Players

Thursday, December 2nd 2010

Today our manager sent us an email asking everyone to vote for the 2 people we think have been the Most Positive Players in the month of November and to write a sentence as to why we voted for them.

I had some ideas, but then took an hour or so to think about it before making a decision. I chose 2 people who I felt have been working extra hard and staying in a good mood regardless of what's happening around them.

I'm excited to find out the results and to see their expressions when the compliments are read aloud.

Peace :)

BOGO

Wednesday, December 1st 2010

I received a buy-one-get-one free (bogo, as some call them) coupon in the mail to my favorite mexican restaurant- Chipotle! Last time I had one of these, I asked my coworker if she wanted to share it with me and I thought it would be fun to do the same thing again.

Miss J seemed excited and we both looked forward to going today. When it came time to pay, things got a little confusing because I was also picking up lunch for another co-worker and then trying to use the coupon with Miss J at the same time.

Not to worry though. It all worked out with a little simple math and trading of cash once we got back to the office. And, it sure was worth it!

Peace :)

4 Quarters

Tuesday, November 30th 2010

On our way home from dinner tonight, it was nearly 9pm and, once again, my gas tank was about empty. It would be nice to skip it and wait until tomorrow morning, but since we were driving right by a gas station, I asked D if we could stop (he was driving).

The lady was really nice and I wanted to tip her, but I didn't have any cash! I thought, is it ok to give coins or is that kind of cheap? Oh well, I'm going to do it anyway.

So I dug up 4 quarters and carefully handed them to her so none dropped. Maybe she'll use them for a cup of coffee or a candy bar in the attached mini mart!

Peace :)

Dinner for 6

Monday, November 29th 2010

I think I now receive at least one piece of mail from charity organizations, sometimes up to 5, per "time I pick up the mail." Not per day, because we only check the mailbox about twice a week. So what's that? About 2-10 letters per week!

It's hard to say no, but sometimes I have to. Otherwise, I'll have to start working part time so I can stay home and fill out forms/write checks everyday. And then I'd be in debt with no money left to give!

Today, one struck my attention though. It was for the Union Gospel Mission where I serve dinners occasionally. This reminds me that they haven't called me in a while. Maybe I should check in and see if they need some extra help...

Anyway, I sent a check to them for $11 which the note says will buy a meal for 6 people! Perhaps, I will get to serve the meal too!

Peace :)

Red Kettle

Sunday, November 28th 2010

It's that time of year when The Salvation Army has their bells ringing! I remember volunteering in high school once outside the shopping mall with a friend. It was so cold, but we stood there for what seemed like a whole day! I'm sure it was only 3 hours or so, but it felt like a long time.

Tonight I put a dollar in the red kettle on my way out of the store and the man thanked me so kindly. The people always seem to be so appreciative. It makes it really fun to drop even a few small coins in! I hope I was that nice to others when I did it back in high school...

Well this will be a fun month with lots of caring opportunities all around for the holidays!

Peace :)

Fancy Champagne

Saturday, November 27th 2010

Tonight we are going to an engagement party for D's twin brother and his fiancee. All of our friends will be there and it should be a really fun night!

To congratulate them, we bought a bottle of fancy champagne and wrote a little note to go with it. I'm not sure if they'll be able to drink it before heading back to their home in New York, but if not, maybe they'll keep it here and have it when they return for Christmas!

Peace :)

Small White Coat

Friday, November 26th 2010

Some might say it's crazy to do, but I decided to brave the shopping mall today. I haven't shopped the day after Thanksgiving for over 10 years and since I had the day off, I thought I'd check it out.

It wasn't too bad. Probably because it was 1pm in the afternoon and everyone started 12 hours earlier! I found some coats that were on sale and started looking closer to find the right size & color to try on. That's when I noticed a girl about 15 yrs old or so who was becoming very flustered.

"Ugh!" She said in a quiet voice but I could tell she wanted to scream. Maybe she had been out since 1am.

"What are you looking for?" I asked her.

Shocked that someone noticed her she answered shyly, "The white one in a small."

Oh, wouldn't you know that's what I had in my hand! I'm still wondering if she saw me pick up the last one and that's why she was making so many noises...

So I said, "You can have this one" and I handed it to her. No big deal to me. It helped make my decision easier!

She seemed pleased and timidly accepted it.

It might have been someone elses, I'm not sure, but a few minutes later I saw a small white coat thrown back down on a table nearby. Oh well! I left happily with a gray coat in my bag.

Peace :)

Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 25th 2010

Happy Thanksgiving! Once we got home last night, it was a nice feeling to be here. I guess I missed it more than I thought. Althought it's only about 36 degrees and shockingly cold!

My family was all coming over to my mom and dad's house at noon, so D and I left town early to get there in time to help set up and visit before the guests arrived. We picked up a couple bottles of Pinot Noir on the way which ended up being so good I want to go back and pick up some more while it's still half-off.

My mom suggested I stop and pick up a can of whipped cream to make it easy although she had already bought the ingredients to make homemade whipped cream. "No way! I'll gladly whip up some whipped cream when I get there!" I said. Even though whipped cream of any kind is one of my all time favorite treats, there is no better kind than homemade. And I think everyone else will like it too. Plus, I get to do some taste-testing while I make it! You know, just to make sure there's enough sugar and vanilla ;)

The time we had was great. Lots of laughs, a little story telling, good food and a few talks about our upcoming wedding!

Peace :)

Hand Washed Dishes & Coffee

Wednesday, November 24th 2010

We were all packed and just about ready to head to the airport to fly home when I realized there was a sink full of dishes (which I vaguely remember saying last night that I would take care of them ;) Everyone was doing their share of the work and I began on the dishes.

It took about 30 minutes to load up the dishwasher and hand wash all the glasses, which wasn't too bad.

Then we headed to the airport! I bought coffee on the way for the others and luckily we made it in plenty of time because the coffee shop took about 10 extra minutes that we weren't planning on. No big deal though!

It was an awesome vacation and now it's time to head home. I wouldn't mind staying another week in the warm weather with no worries...

Peace :)

Best Massage Ever

Tuesday, November 23rd 2010

It's our last full day of vacation today and I decided to splurge and go for a 30 minute deep tissue massage treatment. It was the best massage (and the most painful) I have ever had! I feel like I can breathe so much easier than before which I didn't realize I was having any trouble until now when I notice the improvement. It's awesome!

The technician spent the entire 30 minutes on my shoulders and neck because that's where I needed it most, she said. It was also nice because she didn't talk much at all. I don't like it when they ask a bunch of questions and talk a lot. It's hard to relax when they do that.

After it was over, I let her know how great of job she did and that it was the best massage I've ever had. She seemed delighted to hear it.

Peace :)

Neosporin

Monday, November 22nd 2010

My soon-to-be sister-in-law, Miss C, had a little accident last week and hurt her knees. They look so painful and she's having trouble moving around normally because they hurt so much.

She didn't have anything to put on them to speed up the healing, so when we got to the golf course I looked around the pro shop to find Neosporin. Sure enough, they had a tiny travel size packet!

I bought it just as she walked in and asked me what I was buying. The lady handed it back to me and I then passed it to Miss C. "This is what I bought!" I told her and we laughed.

I'm not sure if she'll use it, but I hope her knees get better quickly.

Peace :)

Toys for Children

Sunday, November 21st 2010

Down at the local fudge shop, there was a donation box for a charity providing toys for local children. So, I put a dollar in the box! There wasn't much there, so I'm hoping they had just emptied it out the evening before. If not, maybe my $1 will spark people's attention and the funds will begin coming in now!

Peace :)

Gum

Saturday, November 20th 2010

Due to a rainy day, we took a little drive out to the casino about 30 minutes away. On the sidewalk outside, I saw a piece of chewed up gum that looked like someone had just put it there. The gum looked like it was so eager to cling to the bottom of some lucky gambler's shoe! Yuck.

Should I risk grossing out the others and pick it up? Or I could get a piece of paper or find a leaf to set on top of it at least? Nope. I had a piece of paper in my pocket, so I used that to pick it up and throw away completely- gross or not. And no one saw anyway, so it was perfect.

Then I won $13!

Peace :)

Dishes for 10

Friday, November 19th 2010

What a pleasure this vacation is so far! Sleeping in, exercising, golfing, bicycle riding and relaxing in the sun. Couldn't be better.

After we were finished eating dinner tonight, I picked up the others' plates, rinsed them off and put them in the dishwasher. I know it's only half the work, but it's something! And maybe I'll unload them tomorrow, who knows?

I can't imagine what it's like to live with a family of 10 all the time. I'm used to cleaning up for 2 and I thought that was a lot of work!

Peace :)

Tour of the House

Thursday, November 18th 2010

We had D's family over to the house we're staying in for dinner tonight. His grandma hadn't seen the house yet and looked interested as she looked all around her in the entry way. So, I offered to give her a tour.

We walked all over the house, room to room, her with her walker and me standing very close to make sure she was stable everywhere we went.

Time for dinner now!

Peace :)

I stopped at the gas station early this morning as I ran a couple last minute errands. I didn't want to, but I know I really won't want to come home to an empty tank. Plus, if I spend all my money on the trip, it will be extra painful to spend another $30 on gas right when I get home!

When the man handed me my receipt, I gave him a folded up $1- carefully folded so as not to lead him to think it was any more than $1. He came to a complete stop and said, "Oh! You are sweet. Thanks!"

Then he smiled, nodded and walked off.

"Have a nice day!" I said as I rolled up the window.

Peace :)

Pizza Tip

Tuesday, November 16th 2010

After work I knew we had a busy night ahead of us- packing, laundry, and getting ready to leave on vacation to California for a week!

I wanted to cook dinner in case we'd be eating out a lot coming up, but at the same time, I didn't want to make a mess in the kitchen and take too much time.

So, we picked up pizza from the pizza place downstairs instead. I got my money out to pay with what I thought was the right amount, then I would count out the tip for the jar separately. However, it turned out I gave them more cash than I thought and when he asked if what I gave them was correct, I didn't want to say, "No. Can I have some of that back?" That would be strange.

In the end, it was probably the right amount that I would have given anyway. It's just that I like to think it out carefully for a minute first. Here I had to make a quick decision which can be a challenge!

Acupuncture

Monday, November 15th 2010

Acupuncture is something I've always wanted to try, but never took the time to make an appointment and actually do it. So finally, last Friday I stopped in to a place near my work and made an appointment for today.

I went on my lunch break, feeling slightly apprehensive, yet eager to discover the results. I don't think I was just imagining it, but I came out feeling rejuvenated and at ease. It was like all my worries were gone, even if it was just for a few hours, it felt great!

I have been sluggish, impatient and a little irritable lately so I'm hoping this will improve my inner emotions to become more relaxed which will, in turn, improve interactions with those around me and make things better in general.

Bracelet

Sunday, November 14th 2010

Tomorrow is my grandmother's birthday and since it falls on a Monday, my aunt hosted a birthday party for her tonight. Before I left town to attend, I went shopping downtown to find a nice, little piece of jewelry for her.

It didn't take long before I found a pretty "brushed" gold bracelet that I thought would look so nice on her and match some other pieces she already has.

I asked the sales lady if she could put it in a gift box and, along with that, she took the price tag off and wrapped it in tissue. All ready to go!

The whole family was there and we sang, ate cake, opened gifts and took lots of pictures. Happy Birthday Grammy!

Peace :)

Shoes & Head Lights

Saturday, November 13th 2010

I had another pair of shoes riding around in the trunk of my car for weeks waiting to be donated to the "Soles for Souls" box next to the coffee shop. The box isn't out early in the morning on my way to work, but since it's Saturday and I was going in later than normal, the box was out.

The shoes were all washed and clean so I hope someone is excited when they get them. They were one of my favorite pairs of tennis shoes which I've had since approx 2002. Believe it or not, they were in very good shape. It wasn't like I was giving an old, beat up pair or anything.

While driving home in the dark, there was a car in front of me without their lights on. I see this all the time lately and it's so dangerous! When it's dark and rainy, you can't see them at all. So I began flashing my brights at them, but they didn't notice. I continued to follow them up the hill, flashing them and then leaving my brights on for a few seconds- anything to get their attention.

After many desperate attempts, they turned their lights on. I continued to follow them over the very dark, windy road, hill all the way downtown. It is one of the most dangerous hills to be driving on at night with no lights, so I felt good knowing they had their lights on finally.

Tip for Taking Too Long

Friday, November 12th 2010

At Subway today, the guy who made my sandwich and then was collecting my money ended up taking a good 3-5 minutes to complete the transaction. He entered cash when it was supposed to be card. Then the swiper wasn't reading the card and after about the 5th try, his coworker came up to help. It then had to be manually entered, etc etc.

I felt bad for him rather than frustrated. The line was backing up and I could tell he was stressing. So when we were all done, I gave him a tip to let him know I still appreciated all of his help even though it took longer than usual.

Peace :)

Pizza

Thursday, November 11th 2010

It's Veteran's Day today and my work is giving us the day off with the option to come in if we want. Since there is so much to do and I'm leaving on vacation next week, I ended up working anyway. Just a short 8 hour day though. There were about 10 of us there, so it was kind of fun to have a casual day with a small group.

Last night I had the idea that I would treat everyone to pizza for lunch. Not a gourmet, expensive place, but more of a cheap-but-good pizza place. The idea started when I found $6 in the parking lot last night. I didn't feel good about picking it up and I tried to come up with a way to return it to the owner, but how do you do that?

I thought about giving it to a charity and then decided on using it toward our lunch. I've never found that much money on the ground before and now that I think about it, there is a good chance it was from my own pocket when I got out of my car earlier that day! Oh well.

Either way, it went toward some delicious pizza which our manager Miss R chipped in a little on too. Others offered, but the rest was on me. It was fun and if I had a lot more money, I'd like to do stuff like that more often.

Peace :)

Salads

Wednesday, November 10th 2010

After a really long day, I thought on my way home that cooking won't be in the plans for tonight! I usually like to cook, but lately I just haven't had the energy to grocery shop, cook, clean up the dishes and everything else that's involved in making just one meal.

I called D to see if Chipotle sounded good to him- and yes it did! Since I don't eat chicken or any other kind of meat (besides seafood) I like it when D skips the meat too. He can eat what he wants, but if I'm cooking or buying take-out, we typically both get a meatless meal.

I know he likes chicken on his salad though. Should I get him what I want or get him what he would want?

When it was my turn in line I told the lady, "I'd like 2 salads to go. One veggie and one with chicken please."

Peace :)

Flowers for Miss N

Tuesday, November 9th 2010

I had to stop by the store this morning to pick up some pot luck treats, and I wanted to also pick up a little potted flower for one of our temporary workers, Miss N, who has been such a pleasure to work with for about 4 months now. She never complains, works hard, and makes jokes whenever we talk which is always a fun time.

There were so many cute flowers to choose from and I didn't know her tastes, but I decided on a bright pink & white variety. I wrote a thank you card to go with it and set in next to her computer before she arrived.

When she got to work, Miss N came over and with a big smile, told me that I made her day. A feeling rushed over me and all I could do was smile it felt so good to hear her say that.

Planning Miss S's Going Away Party

Monday, November 8th 2010

Since one of my coworkers is leaving the office and moving to Montana this week, tomorrow is her last day and I wanted to do something nice for her.

I sent out an email to the department with a sign-up sheet for a pot-luck party. Another girl had a great idea to theme it- "Sweet & Savory" so that's what we did.

There weren't too many people to sign up on the list, but I'm sure we'll still have enough for everyone. Another coworker passed around a card that we all signed, and our manager bought her a beautiful Orchid. I hope Miss S will be delightfully surprised!

Peace :)

T's Birthday

Sunday, November 7th 2010

Today is D's Dad's birthday. He isn't always the easiest person to shop for, but he asked for only one thing- iTunes gift cards. So that's what he got! He said he has over 400 songs he wants to buy, so maybe that will be his birthday gift again next year too!

We went out to dinner to a casual place of his choice and now that I look back- we forgot to sing! Oh well, I'm sure he's ok with that.

Happy Birthday T!

Peace :)

Bridal Shower Gift

Saturday, November 6th 2010

Tonight I went to a bridal shower for my friend who is getting married in less than a month! Another friend and I went in on a gift for her- cute pajamas and a special, awesome-smelling delicates laundry detergent.

The party was so much fun- dinner, cocktails, photo slide show, games and lots of funny stories. I couldn't believe it when we realized we had been there for 7 hours! Time flies when you are having fun.

Take Out Lunch

Friday, November 5th 2010

Early this morning my coworker asked what the plan for lunch was. I said "I don't know but I'll be going to get something soon!"

He said he wouldn't be able to leave to get lunch today, so I offered to go and then asked my manager if she wanted something too since I know she loves the place I was going.

"Yes, I would!" She exclaimed as she walked right over with her wallet and gave me cash for her meal.

I took their orders and went to the restaurant. Last time the soup spilled, so I had to be extra careful and hold on to the lunches all the way back. It was delicious as usual!

Peace :)

Golf Shop Giftcard

Thursday, November 4th 2010

One of our friends has done a lot for D and me lately, so we wanted to thank him and let him know how much we appreciate it. I know he likes to golf so we thought a gift card to the local golf shop would be a good idea.

Today I bought the gift card and wrote a thank you note which we'll give to him tomorrow.

Thanks for all of your help Mr. J!

Pet Adoption Sign

Wednesday, November 3rd 2010

I saw a sign tipped over in the parking lot today as I was parking to pick up a coffee. I thought it was a construction sign because it looked like new concrete was just poured with yellow tape and orange cones all around.

I thought, I'm going to do something unusual and go pick it up. And so I did. It turns out it wasn't a construction sign, it was a "Pet Adoption" advertisement!
I was having a rough morning until then, but somehow as soon as I picked up the sign and realized it was a good cause that I was picking up a sign for, all my frustrations vanished.

I drove off to work with a smile on my face, singing to the music and ready for a great day!

Peace :)

Email

Tuesday, November 2nd 2010

This morning we had a meeting which led to some hurt feelings for at least one person who made it clear that that was what happened. I felt sincerely sad for the way he was spoken to and I wanted to make him feel better but didn't know how.

The only thing I could think of was to send him an email letting him know how I have been in his shoes before and that he is greatly appreciated for everything he does.

I think it helped a little. Well, I hope it helped a little at least.

Peace :)

Parking Spot

Monday, November 1st 2010

On my way through the parking lot at the grocery store, I noticed a car pulling out of a great spot. It was my turn to go and I had first choice of taking the spot or continuing out further. When I saw another car who appeared to be heading down the same way, I kept driving in order to let them have the close spot.

I don't know if they ended up taking it or not, but perhaps someone who needed a near-the-door spot or someone who was having a rough day ended up with it. Either way, I needed the exercise and was glad to park farther away.

Peace :)

Clothes, High Heels & Apples

Sunday, October 31st 2010

I decided to go visit my family today because #1- I missed them, #2- I hadn't talked to them in person since D & I got engaged and I wanted to show my mom & grandma my new ring.

Since I know my mom's friend is the same size as I am and she liked getting some of my clothes a couple weeks ago, I went through my closet to find some more stuff she might like. I put them in a bag, along with a pair of unworn high heels for work, tossed them in the back seat and headed down the freeway.

I think my mom will offer her the clothes this week and if she can't use them or doesn't like them, we can find someone else who might want them.

I had a great time with everyone and since it's Halloween, I got to help my grandparents hand out apples to the little trick-or-treaters. So fun!

Peace :)

Photographer

Saturday, October 30th 2010

D needed a photographer to go out with him to a Youth Soccer fundraising event at a local high school this morning and I was excited to take on the job! Kids, Fundraising, School, D, and a chance to help out- I'm there!

It was freezing cold this early morning, so the young soccer players wanted to get the photos taken as fast as possible. We set up the banners, arranged the group and started snapping pictures left and right.

I am not a professional photographer by any means and my camera is no where close to fancy, but they turned out great and it was something I've never done before. What a fun Saturday morning. Now I think I'll go back to bed.

Peace :)

Chinese Food

Friday, October 29th 2010

Being the last day of the month and also the busiest day for a lot of people in our department, our manager bought lunch for everyone at a place of our choice. Once fast food Chinese won the vote, I volunteered to order it since it appeared I had more free time than the others- at least a couple minutes to spare anyway.

Then it was getting close to time go pick it up and no one seemed to want to offer to do that, so I asked Miss J if she'd go with me and she said yes. I don't know if she really wanted to or if she was just helping out, but thanks Miss J! :)

So we picked up lunch for 32 people and with a car smelling like Chinese food, we drove back and set it all up. Yum!

Ahead in Line

Thursday, October 28th 2010

Whenever someone is entering an establishment at the same time and they hold the door open for you, it's usually nice to offer to let them go ahead in line. That's what I did today. The only thing is, it can tend to turn out with an awkward moment...

"Since you let me in, why don't you go ahead?" I asked.

"No, you go ahead."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Ok, thank you."

Are typically the words exchanged. And by that point, I realize the cashier is anxiously waiting to take my order and get the line moving!

Peace :)

Tip on Full Price

Wednesday, October 27th 2010

After a long, busy day we ended up going out for our favorite $1.99 breakfast for dinner! The beer we ordered was on the happy hour menu, so we ended up having dinner for under $10!

Rather than tip on the special or coupon prices, my dad taught me to tip as if your items were at their full price. I will admit that I don't always follow this kind rule, but tonight I did!

Peace :)

Man in Wheelchair

Tuesday, October 26th 2010

On my way down the street, I came across a man in a wheelchair who was just about to cross the street. He said, "Excuse me. Would you be able to do me a favor?"

I said, "Uh, yes..." with slight uncertainty because I didn't know what he would be asking for and I don't like saying yes at first with a no after. If he wanted a dollar or directions, sure. If he wanted a ride to another town or $3,000 like someone else asked once, then I'd have to change my answer to "No".

He said, "Can you push me up to that place right there under the sign?" As he pointed 1/2 block up the hill to a pub sign.

"Sure. I can do that". I answered as I grabbed his wheelchair handles and began looking for cars before we crossed the intersection. I pushed him up the sidewalk to the bar entrance. It had a pull only door and a ridge to go over just to enter. I don't usually think of how difficult little things like that can be if your in a wheelchair. He pulled the door open, then we backed up as it started to close on us but we caught it just in time.

He thanked me and offered to buy me a cup of coffee, but I had to get going. He said the food there is good and he can get home easily since it's downhill all the way. I hope he enjoyed his lunch and made it home simply.

Peace :)

White Mocha

Monday, October 25th 2010

They accidentally made me a white chocolate mocha this morning at the coffee shop instead of the regular mocha I usually order. It was no big deal and I would have gladly accepted the mistake, but by the time I realized it, they had already made a second drink. So, the barista asked if I'd like to take both and find someone to give the other mocha to and I said "Yes, of course. Thank you!"

I got to work and asked one of the new girls if she'd like it and she seemed excited to be getting a free white chocolate mocha on a Monday morning, so that was great. I love it when opportunities like that arise out of nowhere.

As I sat down and took a sip of my regular mocha, I noticed it tasted a little off. That was because it was the white mocha! After all that, I gave her what was supposed to be mine and I ended up with the wrong one! Oh well. I didn't mind trying something new and I hope she liked the regular one :)

Bottle of Wine

Sunday, October 24th 2010

On our wine tasting tour yesterday, we bought a nice bottle of Pinot Noir that we took over to D's parents house tonight to share with them since they love this wine. They were delighted when we handed it to them and quickly opened the bottle so it would be ready to drink asap!

We told them all the details of the best weekend ever and enjoyed the evening all the while. I'm looking forward to work tomorrow when I can tell all of my coworkers the exciting news!

Spanish Coffees

Saturday, October 23rd 2010

Wow! I kept waking up in the night to realize what happened last night wasn't just a dream. How exciting! Today, we had a great day filled with good food, wine tasting, laughing a lot and talking about some wedding ideas too.

We went to dinner and sat up at the counter where we could watch the chefs in action. It was almost like a tv show, but better! There was a lot of drama, stress, mistakes and beautiful plates of food all being prepared at once.

A friendly couple was sitting next to us, so we offered some of our wine for them to taste. They really appreciated it and ended up buying our dessert as a "congratulations and thank you" at the same time.

Then we felt like doing something more for them because they just got engaged a couple months ago. So, on our way out we ordered 2 Spanish coffees at the bar and watched as the server delivered the surprise to our friends.

What a fun evening! It's great meeting such friendly people like that.

Peace :)

Engaged!

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

D and I were planning to go away today a weekend of wine tasting, relaxation and to celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday. So this morning I made sure everything was packed, filled up the gas tank (and tipped the attendant), and hurried off to work.

As soon as I got to work, I felt myself become giddy and very happy. On the way in, a coworker told me about a local women's sailing club that I can join if I want to learn how to sail. Then, 5 minutes later another coworker told me about a safari-resort in California where you can stay amongst a safari of African animals and go on wine tours at the same time! Then, I opened my email to find an email from my mom who said some of my old clothes went to a girl at her work who was wearing one of the sweaters today.

A couple hours later, another coworker told me about a new waterpark that's opening soon nearby! I couldn't believe all these awesome things I was hearing- all in the same day!

Then the greatest thing in the world happened next. We arrived at the hotel, and as soon as we walked in the room, I was surprised to see D get down on one knee and propose to me!!! I said, "Yes!" I was so excited I didn't know what to do with myself. It felt so unreal. We kept laughing and hugging and laughing some more. The most wonderful & positive emotions were spinning throughout every cell of my body.

We are engaged and I couldn't be happier :)

Peace :)

Neighbors

Thursday, October 21st 2010

Last weekend we had a few friends over to watch a football game. We weren't very loud and everyone was gone by 10:30ish, so it wasn't like we were throwing an all night party or anything.

But, unfortunately, our neighbor came over Monday to let us know we might be getting a call from the property manager. He said, "I think there is something wrong with the insulation but only in this one spot. I can't hear anything throughout the whole unit, except this one place where the noise travels through the walls in particularly. They might send out an engineer or someone to see what the problem is."

Is that a polite way of saying- Don't have any friends over because you are too loud and disrupt us at 7-10pm on a Saturday? Hmmm. I'm not sure. We haven't received a call yet, but we'll see what happens.

So, this morning on my way out, our neighbor was leaving at the same time. Should I hurry and close the elevator door before he sees me? No. I held the elevator open for him and I waited an extra 30 seconds for him to hop on. He was carrying a bouquet of balloons which I complimented him on too.

I hope they realize that we are nice people and we rarely have parties ever! And they've all be during the day or ended before 10:30 at night to be sure we weren't breaking any quiet hours rules (even though there aren't any that I'm aware of).

Hopefully it all works out. They are our neighbors and it would be much better if we could have a good relationship with them.

Peace :)

Sunshine Division

Wednesday, October 20th 2010

After a near-13 hour work day today, I was exhausted. I almost stopped to pick up fast food for dinner, but then I found a tiny bit of energy to stop at the grocery store to pick up the items needed to cook a nice meal at home.

Sometimes that's my favorite way to unwind after a long day. Chopping veggies and sauteing is all it takes. So that's what I bought.

At the checkout line was the Sunshine Division donation box so I dropped in a couple quarters on my way out. Soon they'll have the annual food drive and I'm really looking forward to that! $5-$10 brown paper back full of groceries to go to families all around.

Peace :)

Dented Carton of Ice Cream

Tuesday, October 19th 2010

We were at the store tonight trying to pick out a flavor of ice cream to make ice cream cones at home later. Do we want chocolate, marionberry pie, rocky road? What a tough decision! There was a dented carton of the marionberry pie (my top choice tonight) which I wouldn't usually go for in case of a health hazard.

"Let's get this one." D said.

"Really? It's dented though." I replied.

"Yeah, but no one else will ever buy it, so we should." He suggested again. What a great idea I realized. There was no opening or anything wrong with it. And we'd probably put a dent in it ourselves soon after anyway!

So we bought it and happily left the store. It's nice knowing it won't be going to waste because of a little cosmetic imperfection. A tin can might be a different story however...

Peace :)

Lemon Cookies

Sunday, October 17th 2010

It has been way too long since I've seen my mom so I couldn't wait until today when she was coming up to visit. Funny enough, I had a box of lemon cookies to give her which I picked up on the same aisle I had the experience with the lady on at the store yesterday. My mom loves lemon flavored treats so I think she'll like these.

We shopped, walked around in the sun, and had a splendid lunch together. There couldn't be a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than with my mom.

Peace :)

$1.29 Cookies

Saturday, October 16th 2010

I was at the grocery store this afternoon when a lady grabbed my attention on the aisle.

She didn't say anything, but somehow pulled me aside and started pointing to something up on the shelf.

I thought she wanted me to reach for something high up for her, but then she was only pointing to the price tag and began asking me which price belonged to the box of cookies in her hand. She was asking this without words because it was clear she didn't speak English.

I found the price which was $2.99 for the cookies and she put them back. Then she pointed at a price tag that said $1.99 and was motioning with her hands to ask me which product matched that price. It was a cheaper box of cookies but she quickly decided she didn't want those.

Next was a price tag for $1.29 which she pointed to and sort of giggled at the same time because this was turning into a game of some kind. I've never done this before, but I will say that it was just the sort of thing I like to do. I was so pleased that I was the one she stopped for help.

She thanked me for my assistance by smiling and nodding graciously. I smiled back and continued down the aisle. I'm thinking she's enjoying those $1.29 cookies right about now...

Then just as I made it home, my younger brother and his girlfriend arrived. I haven't seen them in months, so this was a real treat to get to see them. They spent the summer backpacking through Peru & Ecuador so we had a lot to talk about and I loved hearing their travel stories. We had lunch on an outdoor patio, talked, laughed and walked around eating ice cream afterwards. So fun!

Peace :)

Miss K's Engagement

Friday, October 15th 2010

One of my best friends, Miss K, is engaged to be married! I was so excited for her when I found out, I nearly cried. She is thrilled and already starting to make plans for the big day next summer!

So tonight I had Miss K, Miss K, and Miss A over to celebrate her engagement and hear all the details of how he proposed, what she said and all the other little stuff that has happened these past couple weeks.

I left work on time, cleaned up the house quickly, made hors d' ouevres, and got the wine out and ready for when they arrived. The 4 of us shared old memories, laughed and talked for hours. It was a wonderful evening with the girls.

Congratulations Miss K!

Peace :)

Thai Lunch

Thursday, October 14th 2010

One of my old coworkers who I haven't seen in a couple months, another current coworker and I all went out for Thai food for lunch today. We had a fun time sitting outside in the sun catching up on all the office gossip and eating a fabulous lunch at the same time.

Since it is soon to be Miss N's birthday, Miss M offered to buy her lunch as an early birthday celebration. I hope I wasn't barging in on the deal, but I asked if I could also split the bill with Miss M and pick up half of the birthday girl's lunch. She seemed to be okay with it and I thought she had a great idea there!

Mission Dinner

Wednesday, October 13th 2010

It has been about 2 months since I served dinner at the Union Gospel Mission so I was excited when the volunteer coordinator called me the other day to ask if I was available for tonight.

I hurried home, changed clothes and walked down there as fast as I could. It felt so good to be out of the office, getting fresh air and exercise on a sunny fall night.

There were 5 of us there volunteering which seemed like enough help, although we were scrambling around at times struggling to move the line through smoothly. We had a ton of food to hand out and a lot of people coming back for second and third helpings so I'd say it was a successful night!

Peace :)

Mentor Program

Tuesday, October 12th 2010

We have many new employees starting in our department who are going to need some direction and guidance. I was thinking to myself, how can we set them up properly so they aren't wondering who to ask and what to do?

I then sent an email to our manager to suggest & ask at the same time if we could set up a mentoring program where each current employee is partnered up with a new hire. This person will show them around, give them tips and answer any questions they have.

They approved the idea and we will implement it instantly!

NW Children's Outreach

Monday, October 11th 2010

We found out very recently that today would be a paid day off from work! Talk about exciting news for all of us. The HR department also announced 4 volunteer opportunities we could sign up for and attend today in place of working.

I thought about which one sounded the most fun for a few days and finally signed up to help out at the Northwest Children's Outreach center only a mile from my house. It was a great experience, but hard work too!

There were 6 of us, plus the oh-so-sweet director lady. She was so passionate about the organization and told us stories the entire 3 hours we were there which kept us entertained as we sorted, folded and boxed up thousands of articles of children's cute little clothes.

I was pretty tired and sore from bending down into a giant bin, I don't know how many times, but it was worth it! Now I am hoping to go back soon to put together individual totes that the families come to pick up and give to their children. What a great organization run by volunteers only!

Peace :)

Gesture

Sunday, October 10th 2010

Today is 10/10/10. I was hoping to catch the clock at 10:10 am and/or 10:10pm, but I missed it both times. I'm not sure what I was going to do, but it sounded like a good idea! Maybe next year on 11/11/11.

After a long 2.5 hour trip home, driving through rain and mountainous curves almost the entire way, we rested for a while and then headed out for a quick bite to eat.

A lady was standing outside a shelter and asked me for change. We kept walking a bit, then I reached in my pocket where I had $1 ready and went back by to give it to her.

"Oh, thank you. Thank you." She said, followed by, "Do you have more?"

"I'm sorry, but no." I answered, feeling guilty, sad and frustrated that it's never enough all at the same time. What's a dollar going to do? Even if it was $100, how's it going to help in the situation some of them are in?

I think it's more the interaction we have and the smiles that are exchanged that mean the most. Hopefully she felt like someone cares for her and wants to help, even if it's in a small way with only $1. And that's what it's all about.

Peace :)

100% Tip

Saturday, October 9th 2010

We were out of town today for D's Aunt's surprise birthday party. It was so much fun, located way out in the country and in a barn! We don't get the chance to party in a barn very often, so this was a treat of an experience to say the least.

Luckily, the small town had a taxi service. The taxi driver who took us to the party, also came and picked us up when it was time to head back home. I ended up being the only person with cash in the car and although the charge was $10, I gave him all I had- which was a $20 bill.

"Why didn't you ask for change?" My friends asked me when I got out of the car. Part of me was too scared to ask for change and part of me just felt super generous and that it was worth it to have a ride to and from the barn in the middle of nowhere. I don't usually tip 100%. This is quite atypical, but I'll try not to worry about it because it's too late now!

Peace :)

Boxed Lunch

Friday, October 8th 2010

I attended the Women of Faith conference today, which was wonderful. There was music, motivational speakers, sad stories, happy stories, funny stories and plenty of remarkable information to absorb and try to remember as best as I can.

Included with the ticket was a boxed lunch- turkey sandwich, chips, apple, and a cookie. I don't eat meat, so I tried to hand my lunch to another woman who was waiting in line for her lunch. She gave me a look like I was trying to sell her drugs and shook her head "no".

So I bought a slice of pizza instead and carried the boxed lunch with me for the next 3.5 hours. I knew I'd be cruising through downtown on my way home and surely there would be someone willing to accept the meal there.

On my way home, I hopped off the train and began looking for someone who might want this perfectly fine boxed lunch. There was no one in sight for over 5 blocks! I couldn't believe it. I'm not usually downtown during the late afternoon, but it appears the people I usually see at night are somewhere else during the day.

I took the items out of the box and put them in my purse before I headed into the mall to look around. That way I could toss the box which was becoming a burden. As I came out of the mall, I saw a man asking people for money so I offered him the sandwich. He wasn't very excited about it but took it anyway and began talking grumpily to someone else.

I wanted to give him the rest of the food I had in my bag too, but he was too quick to go the other way. Oh well. I am hoping he found good use with the sandwich.

Shopping Cart

Thursday, October 7th 2010

I found a great parking spot at the store and as I swung to the right to pull in, I realized why it was available. There was a shopping cart in the way. Ugh. Ok, I'll park over here instead.

So then as I was walking by, I figured I should move the cart up by the entrance along with all the others. This way, the next driver coming in won't have the same experience I did and, perhaps, many others before I got there also had. And it took 5 seconds! No big deal at all.

Peace :)

"Good Morning"

Wednesday, October 6th 2010

On my way out of the coffee shop this morning, I surprised myself by saying "Good Morning" to an older man as he was walking in. I don't usually speak up to strangers unless I make a conscious effort to, but these words came out without thinking. That's why it surprised me. And it was kind of fun!

Peace :)

Favorite Magazine

Tuesday, October 5th 2010

My friend usually likes it when I bring magazines to work and she always wants to read them before they go to the break room, so today I put one of my favorites on her desk so she'd see it when she arrived.

I hope you enjoy reading it Miss M :)

Brownies

Monday, October 4th 2010

I made brownies last night and this morning I cut them up into small squares, arranged them on a paper plate, wrapped it in foil and found some orange napkins to go along with them. I was early to arrive so I set them on the table and watched throughout the day as people grabbed one at a time.

I didn't really want anyone knowing I made them, partly because it's fun to be anonymous sometimes and partly because they weren't as good as the ones the girl who always brings brownies to our potlucks makes! More weight is placed on the latter reason, however, they did get eaten fairly quickly.

Goodwill & Soles for Souls

Sunday, October 3rd 2010

Happy Birthday Miss C! I hope you enjoy the Pinot Noir :)

This morning I pulled out my "Winter Clothes" box from storage and sorted 3 piles out. 1-donate to Goodwill, 2- keep and wear this year, 3- wash and fold before taking to Goodwill. Then I did the same with my summer clothes straight from the closet.

4 hours later, I had 2 bags of clothes and 1 bag of shoes ready to give! The clothes will go to Goodwill and the shoes will go to a donation box I saw the other day called "Soles for Souls" (see website link below). I'm hoping it's still there this week, but since it's right next door to Starbucks I can easily look for it whenever I stop for coffee ;)

Piano Bar

Saturday, October 2nd 2010

I woke up this morning feeling compelled to cook breakfast for D while he got ready to go to work. I made scrambled eggs with melted cheese & toast on the side- a standard in our house.

Then while I was at work, I told my manager about a new piano bar in town that we went to last night. I don't know her well yet, but I think she likes music a lot so I wanted her to know about this place she might want to check out.

"I haven't heard of that. Where is it? I think I'll tell my girlfriend and maybe we'll go there tonight!" She said in response to my suggestion. She sounded really excited, so I hope she goes and has a great time.

Peace :)

Pinot Noir

Friday, October 1st 2010

What if Miss C doesn't like Pinot Gris anymore and prefers red wine? I can't ask her because she doesn't know I'm going to her surprise party, so that would be an odd question out of nowhere. So I emailed her sister and asked what her favorite wine is. She said Pinot Noir (red)!

I'm not upset about this one bit because the Pinot Gris I bought yesterday will not go to waste. I'd rather be sure to get her what she really likes, so I stopped off at the store and found a Pinot Noir with a pretty label :)

Peace :)

Pinot Gris

Thursday, September 30th 2010

My friend has her 30th birthday this weekend and I'm going to attend her surprise birthday party tomorrow! What kind of gift would she want?

I thought a nice bottle of wine would be entertaining and appropriate for a sophisticated age like 30. So I decided on a Pinot Gris, and found a nice bottle with a pretty label :)

I found a sweet card that made me tear up in the grocery store and headed back to work. I think she'll like this.

Peace :)

Girl On The Steps

Wednesday, September 29th 2010

After dinner, D and I went to rent a movie from the McDonald's Redbox (our usual spot). There was a girl was sitting outside on the steps who asked us for change on our way in. At that moment I gave my typical hesitation and said, "We might on our way out!"

Sometimes I need to think about it for a minute before I instantaneously open my wallet out on the street. But then after I walk past, I decide how much I want to give and how I'll do it before I go back- not all the time, but I find this is the common action.

We found a movie and on our way back down the steps, I gave the girl some change right as she was saying something ill toward someone else. I was caught off guard and thought should I pull my hand back and keep the money? Nope. Maybe this will do some good somehow for this girl. And she quickly took the money from my hand.

Gas Station Tips

Tuesday, September 28th 2010

I know I write about this one all the time, but each time I do it, it gets better! Another tip to the gas station attendant...

I wasn't really in the generous, sharing mood this morning but when he started washing my windshield there was no question. How can we let someone who performs a service like this go without tipping them? We tip a restaurant server an automatic 15-25% without thinking about it!

Now I'm starting to think $1 is not enough when my total is around $30. That's 3.3%. Ugh. Not enough. And they always show such gratitude and smile for the first time during the entire transaction when I trade $1 for the receipt. Imagine how happy they would be if we paid these servers 15-25% too! Or even 10%. They might start washing the entire car like they did years ago.

Peace :)

Donation Box

Monday, September 27th 2010

As I was paying for my groceries, there was a donation box for the Sunshine Division- providing clothing and food to individuals and families. I dropped a dollar in but it got stuck (the slot isn't big enough)...(or I didn't fold it up enough)- one or the other :) so I used the plastic card I was paying with to push it down all the way and get out of the next person in line's way.

Pretty soon the same store will be having their holiday grocery drive where you buy a $5 or $10 bag of groceries which are donated to a family. I am looking forward to that one!

Peace :)

Forgotten Order

Sunday, September 26th 2010

The server dropped the bill off at our table when we were finished with our meal at the new, local Thai restaurant. There was only one other group of 3 in the entire restaurant, so when I saw they forgot to add our beer to the tab, we let them know before paying so they could add it on.

Not that I wouldn't want to be honest like that in a busy restaurant, but the fact that they just opened a couple months ago and are slow with business, there was no hesitation to speak up!

Peace :)

Pedicure Tip & Paper Towels

Saturday, September 25th 2010

Although I asked for a "rush" pedicure because I was in a hurry, the nail technician spent a good hour +. This isn't such a bad thing and I could've spoken up again to say "hurry up!" but I figured I would just take less time on the other errands I had to run instead. What can it hurt to enjoy the longest possible pedicure that feels so good?

So I gave her a big tip at the end and she had a giant smile on her face when I walked out :)

Tonight I was at a wedding for some friends which was really great. Fun people, good food, lots of wine, dancing and a photo booth! Twice, when I was in the restroom, I noticed the paper towels were about to spill onto the floor. I am sure the people working there would have cleaned it up throughout the night, but I decided to smash the paper towels down into the garbage anyway to make room and keep the place tidy.

Looking back, that was probably a little unsanitary. Oh well, I took a shower when I got home so hopefully there was no harm done by the germs!

Peace :)

18 drinks

Friday, September 24th 2010

Starbucks seems to be the trend this week, because I received a gift card, I gave one and then our whole department received one too! For the big group gift, I took everyone's orders and offered to go pick it up this morning. Luckily another girl went with me because we had 18 coffees to pick up! It wasn't exactly easy, but we made it and only one spilled a little. And that was because the lid wasn't on all the way!

Everyone was pretty excited when we walked in with all the drinks and I was excited to sit down and relax for a minute. That wasn't easy!

Peace :)

Auntie S's Birthday & Gift Card for Miss J

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Happy birthday Auntie S! Today is my aunt's birthday, so I sent her a happy birthday email. I think I need to be better about sending actual greeting cards in the mail though. Maybe I should start a routine where on the 1st of each month I pick out birthday cards for everyone I know having a birthday during that month. Or maybe I should buy a big box of cards for all occasions, so I always have one handy and ready to mail off...

Believe it or not, today another coworker of mine, Miss J, told me yesterday that she rear-ended someone on her way home from work! I can't believe almost the same thing happened to 2 people I know in the same week! I can see that Miss J feels terrible and I tried to tell her it can happen to anyone and as long as no one was hurt it's nothing to worry about too much. I know that's easy for me to say, but with a little body shop work, it can be put behind her and forgotten.

I know she likes Starbucks, so I picked up a gift card for her and put it on her desk with a note so she'd see it when she sat down. Just a little something to take her mind off of what happened and enjoy a delicious coffee instead!

Peace :)

Wendy's

Wednesday, September 22nd 2010

I found out Monday morning that one of my co-workers was rear-ended Friday night on his way home from work. It sounds like it was more than just a little fender-bender because he went to the hospital and everything! I think he's ok because he came to work, but he says he's in lots of pain.

I don't know him very well, but I saw he went to Wendys one day, so I picked up a little Wendy's gift card and will give it to him as soon as I get a card to put it in and have everyone sign it. Hopefully a burger and chocolate frosty will cheer him up a little!

Peace :)

Magazines

Tuesday, September 21st 2010

I have a subscription to 2 different magazines (they were holiday gifts last year from my sweet mom) so with time flying by so quickly, it seems the coffee table is always collecting new ones which are never read (or flipped through more likely) more than a few times before they begin collecting dust.

Rather than recycling them, I took a few to work and put in the break room on a table. I've done this before and should probably do more often. The magazines on those tables have torn pages, missing pages and look like they've been in the hands of 200 people.

I hope my fellow co-workers enjoy reading them, even if they are July & August editions.

Peace :)

Wedding Gifts

Monday, September 20th 2010

We have 2 wedding gifts to send ASAP! I've been putting it off and then forgetting everyday to get these put together. So I finally went to the bank and requested as new looking as possible $$ bills which I then put in a card and sent the first one.

I still need to find the address, buy a card and send the other one next...

One down, one to go!

Peace :)

Trade for Receipt

Sunday, September 19th 2010

An older man who looked like he was having a rough day filled my gas tank this morning. I might be very wrong about my observation and I hope I am, but I feel sad when I see people moping around at their job. I handed him a folded up dollar and traded it to him for the receipt. This made him smile, and although it was brief, I think it was worth it.

I know it's probably impossible and there are days when I am not especially chipper in the office either, but it sure would be nice if everyone enjoyed their jobs so much that you could see it from a mile away.

Sort of like the chefs you see on tv who own their own restaurants. You can tell that they are in their element and wouldn't trade their career for any other job in the world. I wonder if I would feel that way if I started my own restaurant...or cupcake shop...?

Peace :)

C's Birthday & A Musician

Saturday, September 18th 2010

Today is my brother's 22nd birthday. This is my brother C, who is the middle one (all 3 brothers are younger than I) and lives in Texas. I sent him an email to wish him a fabulous day and all the best. Happy birthday C!

On my way to return a shirt at a store downtown, there was a man singing and playing the guitar on the corner. This caught my attention from way down the street since it was a song I recognized and really like.

People were walking by left and right, but I stopped to gather some change from my wallet and set down in his open guitar case. I'm hoping he hadn't been there too long, because there wasn't much there.

Sometimes I think it gets tiring to see the same people sitting on the same corners who appear to not be trying, but I still feel there has to be a reason they are there. This is why I like giving them some help too.

But when there is a musician or someone displaying their talents for a few extra bucks on the weekends, I don't hesitate one bit. I think they're awesome and they bring life to the city!

Peace :)

Tanning Lotion

Friday, September 17th 2010

One of my supervisors at work is always talking about her tan and how she likes to be tan. I can relate to this so I usually open an ear when I hear her bring up the subject. Yesterday she was talking about giving up the beds so I had an idea...

Recently, I started using a new lotion that works pretty well and replaces the desire for a tanning bed, so I thought she might like to try it too. I went to the beauty store and bought her a bottle of the lotion and dropped it off at her desk. She was excited and wanted to pay me for it. "You don't owe me any money! It's a gift." I said.

I hope she likes it because it might be a little awkward if it doesn't work for her and then what will she say? Oh well. I'm sure it will work.

Peace :)

Little Girl

Thursday, September 16th 2010

There was a huge party going on outside for all the residents in our building when I got home from work, so D and I hurried downstairs to join in before it ended. They were serving pizza and kegs of beer! We saw some people we knew, met someone else and had some funny conversations while standing around under the huge tent.

One lady brought her daughter over to look at the puppy by us and she proved herself to be a super smart 2 year old (I'm guessing the age here). I told- who I thought was the mother- how smart the little girl is. She nodded in agreement.

We stayed well over an hour, then it was time to wrap it up and walk all the way home...upstairs.

Peace :)

Pizza

Wednesday, September 15th 2010

Miss C came over this evening to drop off my makeup products that I ordered the other day. I hurried home from work to get the house cleaned up, opened a bottle of wine and with perfect timing- she arrived.

We planned to go for Thai food downstairs, but by the time we were ready to go, the restaurant was near closing time. So instead, we went for pizza! I bought D a slice and wrote my check for the makeup.

Today was the first very rainy, dark day of the season but it turned out to be quite fun regardless! I'll try to remember that as we head into winter. Invite a friend over, grab a bite to eat and just enjoy each other's company. I think so often we end up staying in when the weather is bad, but we should get out and enjoy the days just the same!

Peace :)

Miss K's Birthday

Tuesday, September 14th 2010

My friend Miss K had a birthday a couple weeks ago so tonight we met to celebrate it. Yes, it's a little late, but I was happy we got to hang out and I could give her a little birthday gift.

We met at the mall which has a new frozen yogurt shop where you build your own sundae! It is probably very exciting and fun for kids, but I was just as impressed. I picked up the small tab at the yogurt shop (she was trying to pay for her own, but when it's your birthday you shouldn't have to pay of course!) and gave her a small gift card to her favorite coffee shop.

I think I've given her the same gift card the past 4 years in a row now that I think of it. Well, a different card, but to the same shop I meant. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and happy birthday Miss K!

Peace :)

$1,000 Goal

Monday, September 13th 2010

I woke up this morning with a message from a friend who is having a challenge today for her Mary Kay team to reach $1,000 in sales in one day. She asked if there is anything I wanted to buy which could help them reach their goal.

Of course! I opened the catalog, picked out a few items and sent her my order right away. It will be fun to try a couple new products, plus if it helps them reach there goal it's even better!

Peace :)

Picking up Rubbish

Sunday, September 12th 2010

What a fabulous day! It was hot and sunny, with lots of time spent relaxing. If you felt the temperatures outside today, you would never guess that Fall is just around the corner.

After lots of tidying up the house, cleaning, writing and resting, I went to the nearby coffee shop and sat outside with my espresso. They have 3 palm trees outside with tables all around! It is rare to be able to sit at a table under a palm tree right in the middle of the city, but if you have a chance to do it, I highly recommend it! Let me know if you're wondering where it is...

I called my dad and my grandparents to visit, both of which were great conversations and lots of laughs. Then, on my way out, there was some garbage on the ground so I picked it up and tossed it in the bin. To let garbage lay around at such a beautiful setting is just unacceptable!

Peace :)

Lunch by the River

Saturday, September 11th 2010

My mom and dad came up to town to visit and are staying overnight tonight! D has the weekend off, so this is going to be a fun weekend I just know it!

After working a few hours in the morning, I picked D up at home and we walked down toward the river where my parents were waiting. I had a restaurant in mind where we could go for lunch, but I had to run it by the others first.

They had no oppositions (of course!) so we got to have brunch on an outdoor patio, in the sun, while watching dragon boat races going on in the river. Can it get any better than this? I don't think so!

After some great conversations, laughter, and delicious food, the bill came. I instantly picked it up and without hesitation, demanded they all let me pick it up (because they were trying to stop me). I was happy to do this and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Peace :)

Last Day

Friday, September 10th 2010

Today was one of my coworkers last days at our company. She is the 3rd employee to leave for the 3rd week in a row. And next Friday, the 4th one is going! How many more? We all wonder the answer...

So I sent her an email wishing her all the best in her new venture and job. She will be working much closer to home, so I am happy for her that she'll get to spend more time with her family now. I told her the same.

Peace :)

Coffee Shop

Thursday, September 9th 2010

Lately I've been stopping at a different coffee shop (next door to my usual favorite) just because some of the drinks there are made with such high quality ingredients and attention. It's a small shop and I don't think it's a chain, which is also why I like going there.

They used to be quite unfriendly to me, especially if I talked on the phone while inside! I still haven't found a "No Cell Phone" rule posted anywhere, which makes me guess it's just a silent rule that you'd better follow. Don't you love those rules?

Anyway, the workers there have become more friendly and I'm starting to go more often. It's like, the nicer you are to me, the more I'll frequent your shop. That's my own silent rule I suppose. I gave them my usual tip today and the coffee was delicious as always!

Peace :)

New Temporary Employees

Wednesday, September 8th 2010

We have at least 7 new temporary employees working with us since we are so busy at work these days. It is very nice to have the extra help and I want to make sure they know that we appreciate them.

Sometimes, things get pretty hectic and there are so many changes taking place each day that we lose track of who is doing what and how are they doing it?

Today, I went over to talk to one of the new temps who was sitting off in the other room alone since yesterday. I asked him how he's doing and if he had any questions about anything. I let him know that we are glad to have him and I believe things will start smoothing out very soon. I asked him if there was anything in particular he'd like to be working on and to let me know if so because I want him to be comfortable and not afraid to ask.

I'd like to tell and ask the others the same things so we are all on the same page. Today, we had one girl leave half way through the day and I'm worried it was because no one paid much attention to her. I don't want anyone feeling that way because I know what it's like!

Cup Holder

Tuesday, September 7th 2010

We went to a movie tonight which was pretty entertaining. And I didn't fall asleep! I think I figured out that if a movie is over 2 hrs, then I'm bound to fall asleep. But this movie was only 1 hr 40 min so there was no nodding off tonight.

It was quite late, however, and I hadn't done anything generous yet. What can I do at this hour? I thought to myself. So as we got out of our seats, I placed some money in the cup holder of my seat.

I like this idea and I might try this one again. As we walked out, there was a man with a broom waiting to sweep our aisles. I hope he's the one who found it and got to keep it...

Peace :)

Man on Sidewalk

Monday, September 6th 2010

As D's friends, D and I were walking to our car this morning on our way to breakfast, a man stopped us on the sidewalk to wish us a nice day.

It was very sweet that he was telling us that he hopes we enjoy the holiday and I wished him the same. Just then he said, "I would really appreciate it if you gave me a penny. And if you don't want to give me a penny, I don't want to talk to you."

I couldn't believe it! He said "if....I don't want to talk to you"!! Hmmm. Oh well. So I reached in my purse where I had a loose dollar sitting and gave it to him.

"Thank you, thank you." He told me. "Enjoy your day!" I said. And off we went...

Peace :)

Flower Bouquet

Sunday, September 5th 2010

Tonight we had a fabulous evening at the wedding of Mr & Mrs V. The setting, friends, food, wine, dancing and laughter all made it a wonderful event.

As the night was coming to an end, the groom called me over and told me to take some flower bouquets off the tables if I wanted. "Really?" I asked. "I would love to, thank you so much!" I said and got together with a friend to gather some up.

Everyone was already downstairs and on their way out, but when I walked outside with a handful of flowers, one girl nearly gasped. She said, "Where did you get those? Did they let you just take them?" (as if I had stolen them or something!)

"Yes, they said we could." I answered. And since I had 2 bouquets in my hand, I gave her one of them. I told her, "I brought 2 in case someone wanted to take one, so it's for you!" And that was the truth.

Peace :)

Money Tree

Saturday, September 4th 2010

It was near midnight and I was walking home from the restaurant across the street where I had my usual $1.99 breakfast for dinner. I haven't done anything significant enough to write about today and the day is almost over! I thought to myself. Then there was a perfect spot to set down a $1 bill next to a tree. So that's what I did. I probably could have left more since I had just won $15 on my favorite video poker game- Jackpot Party! But one dollar seems to be my habit lately so I stuck with that.

People tease my about my video poker liking, but I'd like to mention that I always keep it to a minimum and never spend more than $20 at one time. In fact, I probably only play once every couple of months. That's not too bad, is it?

Peace :)

2 Geese Cocktails

Friday, September 3rd 2010

Tonight I left work early to get downtown and pick up a friend so we could get to the rehearsal dinner on time. Our boyfriends are the groomsmen in the upcoming wedding, so we planned to meet them there. As we were looking for parking near the restaurant we realized we still had 10 minutes to spare.

"We don't want to be too early so should we swing into the bar next door for a quick cocktail beforehand?" I asked Miss A.

"You read my mind!" She replied.

So we both ordered the same thing- a "Lemon Marionberry Goose" cocktail. "I guess that makes it 2 geese?" I said embarassingly, but I couldn't help myself. It's Friday night and time to relax with a few jokes! :)

After all the work Miss A did last weekend at our race, I picked up the tab without hesitation. That's the least I could do for her.

Peace :)

Going Away Party

Thursday, September 2nd 2010

I was out of town for a meeting all day today which ended up being quite informative and more enjoyable than expected. The best part was a brief seminar on "What makes a good mentor". The lady spoke about how to be a good mentor and how to find a good mentor if you are looking for one yourself:

Notable points on being a good mentor: "Have confidence and keep confidences".

Notable points on finding a good mentor: Look for someone you can relate to or look up to who has the same beliefs and goals that you have.

All in all, it was a good day. Tomorrow we are having a surprise going away celebration for my coworker, Miss P. We are all very sad that she is leaving, but she is going off to start her own business and that is nothing but exciting!

So tonight I bought flowers and a card for her, plus a few breakfast items for our brunch party. I have a magazine that I'll give her too which is all about local food carts, which is exactly the business she is opening. Congratulations Miss P and we'll miss you!

Peace :)

Dinner is Served

Wednesday, September 1st 2010

After a really long day at work, I thought about just calling it a night and going to bed. But, then I thought that would be pretty boring and I'd be missing out on a nice evening at home. Plus, D would be counting on eating dinner together and that's my favorite part of the day too.

So I put together a few items we had in the fridge and made what turned out to be a tasty meal. "Dinner is served." I told D as I handed him his plate. Then I fell asleep shortly after that :)

New Hair Stylist

Tuesday, August 31st 2010

I've been going to the same hair stylist for almost 5 years now, but today I went to someone new. I'll tell you- I followed my old stylist from salon to salon, understandably accepted the price increases over time and referred other friends to her too. Most people will give you a referral bonus or discount, but that was something I never saw.

She, for the most part, always did a consistent job which is why I continued going to her. Until recently when her prices increased dramatically, her hours shortened and she would let me go home with wet hair and not much appreciation for my continued business. My friend even told her we are thinking of going somewhere else due to her high prices and asked if she'd be willing to compromise. "Nope" was the answer.

So, enough was enough and today I found someone new. This stylist opened up a shop 2 blocks from my house and was very grateful to get new clients when I stopped in to make an appointment. She gave me the full salon treatment I had been missing out on all this time, she took all the time she needed to treat me well and left me feeling very excited about coming back next time. I gave her a generous tip and it was worth it!

Gas Station Attendant

Monday, August 30th 2010

My gas tank was nearly empty this morning, so on my way to work I stopped off at the gas station to fill up. Since my gas tank is on the passenger side, the attendant usually takes my money and request through the passenger side window. I was waiting with that window down for quite a few seconds when there was a tap on my driver's side window which startled me instantly!

"Oh, sorry." I told the man as he looked at me with irritation. (I don't blame him for feeling that way.)

"It's ok." He said and shrugged his shoulders like he didn't really care either way. It was Monday morning after all.

When I handed him a dollar tip- through the driver's side window- his energy lightened. He perked up and genuinely said, "I really appreciate it." Without the shrug.

Peace :)

Writing on the Van

Sunday, August 29th 2010

Wow! We finished the race last night! What a great feeling that was-and still is- I guess you could say. I can hardly walk today, especially when trying to step down a stair or curb because my legs are so sore. And I'm not the only one. All 12 of us are in pain this morning, but all in very good moods at the same time. Usually pain and happiness don't go together, but today they do!

Our mini van in the driveway had lots of writing and drawings all over it with our team name and other creative stuff. It was a great time decorating it and fun all weekend, but now we have to wash it off before returning it to the rental company.

So, I got out of bed, grabbed some paper towels and washed it off before anyone else was really awake. I was going to be the one returning the car and didn't want to drive all the way home with it, so I just got it done then and there.

Nice job to all of my teammates on the race! We have some great photos and memories to share...until we run again next year! Well maybe...

Peace :)
